Atelier Noir works on a small number of projects each year — usually five, never more than eight. We design in warm neutrals and honest materials, and we spend as long deciding what to remove as what to specify. The result is quiet, and it lasts.

Design Philosophy
Three principles, held for fourteen years.

Restraint
We specify fewer materials, in larger planes. A space with four finishes reads as considered; one with fourteen reads as anxious.

Material honesty
Stone that is stone, brass that is allowed to patinate, plaster with a hand in it. Nothing pretending to be something else.

Light first
We design the light before the furniture — daylight through the day, then thirty warm sources for the evening. Never a grid of downlights.

Elise Marchand
Founder, Creative Director
Trained at the ENSAD and formerly of Vervoordt, Elise founded Atelier Noir in 2011 around a single conviction: restraint is the most generous thing a designer can offer.
Tomás Ferreira
Head of Interior Architecture
An architect by training, Tomás leads technical delivery and holds the detail — the reveal, the shadow gap, the joint you never notice because it is correct.

Questions we are asked most
Full interior commissions typically begin at £150,000 in construction and furnishing value. For smaller scopes we offer a single-room consultation and specification package.
A fixed design fee based on scope and area, invoiced across five stages. Procurement is handled transparently at trade cost plus a stated management percentage. There are no hidden margins.
Design runs three to four months. Construction and fabrication typically add six to ten, depending on bespoke joinery and stone lead times. We publish a dated programme before you commit.
Yes. Roughly half our work is outside the UK, and we have delivered projects across Europe, the US and the Gulf with local site teams under our supervision.
Often we prefer it. We are comfortable joining an existing team and will define responsibilities in writing at the outset.
Ninety minutes, in the space where possible. We discuss the brief, budget realities and programme, then send a written summary with our recommended route. There is no charge and no obligation.
